Updated (4/19/11): We have contacted Asus Philippines regarding questions in the comments regarding which version of the Fusion APU is arriving. The Eee PC 1215B that is arriving locally is the C50 1GHz 9W Ontario. It will be available by the end of May. According to them there are no plans to bring in the Zacate-based APUs. Although they say that these are subject to change.

Original Post:

Add one more brand to the AMD camp. Asus has finally announced the Eee PC 1215B. I would assume that the B stands for Brazos, AMD’s Fusion-based APU, Accelerated Processing Unit. Fusion integrates both the CPU and GPU into one die thus lowering the power consumption while still providing significant computing power for a netbook. Graphics performance is courtesy of the AMD Radeon 6250 that has full Direct X 11 support capable of running 1080p videos. This 12″ netbook will come in two flavors, the more power efficient, 9W Ontario single-core APU and the performance oriented Zacate 18W dual-core APU. The 1215B look like the first netbook to be released that will have support USB3.0 devices as well.

Look for the Asus Eee PC 1215B this summer.

Press Release:

Manila, Philippines (April 13, 2011) — ASUS has released the ASUS Eee PC 1215B netbook based on the new AMD Brazos platform. The new platform features either an E-Series Fusion Accelerated Processing Unit, better known as an APU, which enable visually rich, next-generation, enhanced PC experiences even on small form factor devices while facilitating extended real-world battery life. They integrate a CPU and GPU on the same die, improving data transfer rates between these components with the added benefit of low power consumption. The new platform also incorporates upgraded graphics technology, compatible with the latest in graphics with DirectX® 11 support integrated in to the chip for superior visuals.

New platform, better performance, same trusted reliability

The performance of the new AMD Fusion APUs enables performance not seen before in previous netbooks. The Eee PC 1215B is a 12” netbook featuring the AMD C-50 dual core processor running at 1.0 GHz. The TDP power draw of the processors is 9W [ED: corrected TDP] making the new Eee PC’s incredibly power efficient for the amount of computing power offered.

Integrated GPU for superior graphics performance

The graphics performance offered on the new Brazos platform is comparable to notebooks with a discrete GPU, yet is extremely energy efficient. The Eee PC 1215B integrates an AMD Radeon™ HD6250 GPU and has support for DirectX® 11 for a better gaming and multimedia experience. It also features an HDMI port, enabling full 1080p HD playback to a bigger screen.

AMD and ASUS for all day computing

ASUS exclusive Super Hybrid Engine Technology combined with AMD Fusion APU’s low power consumption features promises to extend computer usage beyond the normal range of battery life. Lasting up to 8.5 hours***, the Eee PC 1215B offers more than enough battery life for users to enjoy all day computing without the need to constantly recharge.

Notebook performance, netbook size

The Eee PC 1215B come fully equipped with a multitude of ports and connection methods. It comes with a USB 3.0 port, which support data transfer rates up to ten times faster than USB 2.0, along with Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11n Wi-Fi to keep users wirelessly connected. The built-in webcam has a user-friendly camera cover design for additional privacy.

this version of 1215b is not a zacate e350? how disappointing…

According to Asus Philippines the Eee PC 1215B that is arriving locally is the C50 1GHz 9W Ontario. Them there are no plans to bring in the Zacate-based APUs

Personally, I would have preferred to see the Zacate APUs. I own laptop with AMD’s previous mobile solutions and was very disappointed with the heat and short battery life and I was planning to shift to one with the 1.6GHz Zacate APU.

awww bad news if their not bringing in the zacate APUs.Ive been waiting for this since January because i really like the design of this model compared to other brands (sony yb,hp dm1z,lenovo x120,*msi u270 – not yet out as well) with zacate. i want the usb 3.0 feature! I think its part of their marketing strategy in terms of sales, other asus ultraportable models wont be selling anymore. Do you think of any other reasons??

But if c50 is the only one to be release here, il try to consider as well and wait (again) til may end. However, I see two advantages of c50: 1.more battery life 2. cheaper price. Thanks sir jc for the heads up!

I’m very disappointed that ASUS 1215B AMD E-350 still not in the Philippines. It’s a perfect netbook model for me compared to other brands.I will not settle for the C-50 because it is very slow when in multi-tasking. I am planning to buy Sony VAIO Y series with the same specs but it cost expensive. Hope ASUS will bring the 1215B AMD E-350 in the Philippines soon. Thank you!

I just hope the zacate-based 1215b arrive by late 2011. I’ve been eyeing this item and planning to buy by December 2011 before my big birthday. Rofl. BOOKMARKED.

I found somebody selling Zacate based 1215b units online(not gonna tell who or where, you google it). It’s cheap. They must’ve bought the units outside the country. But, as my post above, I’m gonna buy one on December ro I bet their stocks will be zero by that time. I hope ASUS would change their minds regarding this. The unit is very good.
