I guess it could be considered the original computer company. For IBM to have reached the centennial mark is a testament not only for the company but for the whole “digital revolution”. For those that can remember, IBM was the institution when it came to computers in the 80′s. There was a certain prestige for owning an IBM computer and for this particular writer, is proud to have owned one and currently owns a spiritual successor, a Lenovo ThinkPad.
With all their success in the business and consumer market, it is easy to forget the amount of innovation the company has produced during its 100 year existence, from the tabulating machine to the first mainframe computers to Watson, the Jeopardy Computer.
To celebrate IBM’s centennial, the company has posted two short HD documentaries, one showing 100 innovations in 100 years and another highlighting the people, the IBMers behind the innovations. Here they are, enjoy and Happy 100th Birthday IBM.
