When the first Android tablets came out, they were mostly bigger-screened Android phones because of the OS. Earlier this year, Google released an Android OS version that was specifically built for tablets. This was version 3.0 affectionately called by its codename Honeycomb. Fast forward to today, Android tablets are now almost a dime a dozen with most offering the same specs and designs. Asus has taken a different route of sorts with its own Android tablet. The brand that created the netbook market with the Eee PC has designed its own tablet with the one big difference…it can turn into a netbook with the optional keyboard dock.

We first saw the Asus Eee Pad Transformer earlier this year when it was launched to the tech media. It was thinner than expected and because the display had a 16:9 ratio, it was smaller than the iPad. The internals including the dual-core Tegra 2 chipset made for snappy response and the ability to output HD videos through mini HDMI. The kayboard dock allows you to essentially turns the tablet into a netbook of sorts running Android. (See why they call it the Transformer?) Unfortunately, when we saw it, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer didn’t have a specific ship date – that is until now.

Asus is officially launching the Transformer today! Price for the Eee Pad Transformer is PhP29,995 and for those that (for some reason) don’t want the dock, the Eee Pad is available for PhP 22,995.

Also, anyone who purchases an Eee Pad Transformer or just the Eee Pad (without the keyboard dock) between July 20-23 will received a raffle stub which gives you the chance to win a trip to any Philippine destination.
