Got noisy kids at the backseat of your car or are one yourself that needs pacifying? Download the Backseat Driver app for the Apple iPhone. The app is developed by Toyota in Japan (yes, that Toyota) as what appears to be the first toy app by a new division, ToyToyota.
The game/toddler driving simulator keeps your child (or you) occupied while the person driving can concentrate on the road. The app lets the kids (or you) “drive” the car while the actual driver manages the road rules and avoid other cars and pedestrians. Backseat Driver actually maps the route you (or your significant other) are driving to the destination via GPS and awards the user points for such things as driving through landmarks. The app also allows your kids (or you) to customize the virtual car as well as tweet your destinations on Twitter (ala Foursquare or Gowalla).
Backseat Driver looks like a fun distraction on long road trips .Just don’t mistake Backseat Driving app with actually driving the car.
What will the Japanese think of next? My only question is when will the Android app be available Toyota?
We at Techindustriya don’t know if the map works locally but it has been tested in the US and worked fine.
It’s free at the iTunes App Store. See if Backseat Driver works well in our shores and comment below on what you think.
