[Updated 2: As we have posted just after the Globe launch, the Blackberry Playbook is also available with Smart Communications. We were informed after this that both Smart Communications and Sun Cellular will also offer the Blackberry tablet.]
Last April, we got a hands on preview of the Blackberry Playbook. We then asked when them when the RIM (Research in Motion) tablet will be coming to the Philippines. The answer was a sheepish, “We don’t have a definite timetable for the local launch,” (or at least something to that effect).
Fast forward four months later, it has finally arrived. RIM’s tablet, the Blackberry Playbook is here to much fanfare as Globe Telecom exclusively launched the 7″ tablet to its subscribers. The Playbook with its dual 1GHz processor and 1GB RAM will be available to Globe subscribers in 16GB or 32GB WiFi -only models. Because of the Playbook’s processor and QNX OS, it is able to play full 1080p videos while simultaneously run a 3D game such as Need for Speed. The tablet has 2 cameras (front and rear). The 5MP rear camera will also be able to record HD videos. And with the Blackberry Bridge software, Blackberry users will be able to intimately connect the Playbook to their Blackberry phones.
Those who pre-ordered will get a special limited bundled offer of a BlackBerry PlayBook and a BlackBerry smartphone starting with the My Super Surf Plan 2499. For those who didn’t get a chance to pre-order the Playbook, you call still get the device through Globe’s Blackberry plans.
