Nokia Launches the N9 Exclusively with Smart

Nokia officially launched it Meego-powered smartphone, the N9 today at the Salon de Ning at the Manila Peninsula in Makati. Along with the launch, the Finnish company announced that it has partnered with Smart Telecommunications to have initial exclusivity for the smartphone before letting it loose with open-line units available at Nokia Stores after.

The N9 is the only Nokia smartphone that is powered Meego. Along with the OS, the N9 sports a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor and 1GB of RAM. Its 3.9” display uses AMOLED capacitive touchscreen for responsive controls as well as deep colors. To protect the screen, the N9 uses Corning Gorilla Glass. The smartphone has WiFi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1.

The Meego smartphone has an 8MP sensor equipped with Carl Zeiss lens, autofocus, and dual-LED flash. Music aficionados will also love the Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Headphones technology built-in to the phone.

The N9 also sports an NFC chip to communicate with other NFC-enables devices.

If you want to be one of the first people to get their hands on the N9, you’ll need to be a Smart subscriber. Smart will be the first offer the Nokia N9 smartphone and is offering pre-orders on Smart’s site, as we reported last week, until the 18th, with open-line models being available after.

People who avail of Smart’s Unlimited Data Plan 2000 or the All-in Plan 3500 will be able to get the 16GB model of the N9 while those who avail of the Unlimited Data Plan 3000 can get the 64GB model for free. Pre-orders are already available for those that avail of the All-in Plan 3500 with a PhP1,500 cash out.

The N9 will be available in 16GB and 64GB models and will come in Black, Magenta, and Cyan. The former will be sold for PhP24,990 and the later for PhP29,450 once open-line units becomes available.
