Techindustriya got a hands on of the yet to be locally released Transformer Prime. The Prime is the successor to the successful Transformer Android tablet.
The Transformer Prime uses Nvidia’s Tegra 3 platform that includes a quad core processor that is able to handle 1080p resolution video and even 3D gaming. The 10.1” display uses a very bright Super IPS+ display which gives very wide viewing angles. As with the original, the display is protected using Corning Gorilla Glass to prevent from scratching. Another upgrade is the 8MP rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash.
What is really striking is how Asus has made the Prime much thinner and sleeker. One of my complaints with the original Transformer is that it was thick and thus made it a bit of a handful to tote around. The thickness is actually comparable to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab.
Again, what makes the Transformer Prime transform is the keyboard dock. The dock let the Prime transform in to an Android-based netbook, complete with a chicklet keyboard and touchpad.
According to Asus, unlike the original Transformer, the Prime will not be sold as a tablet only. When you get the Prime, it will include the keyboard dock that includes another battery as well as USB ports which you can plug in a gamepad that can be used with compatible Android games. Asus is claiming that when docked the Transformer Prime will last up to 18 hours using the battery on the tablet and the dock.
Asus is also saying that the Transformer Prime is set to launch sometime this month.
