Samsung Philippines, in partnership with Intel Philippines, has launched its Ultrabook offering.
The Series 5 Ultra comes in two display sizes. The 14” model offers an Optical Disc Drive (ODD), a first for Ultrabooks. Another first is that it also uses discrete graphics courtesy of the AMD Radeon HD 7550M. While the Series 5 Ultra does use an SSD as the primary drive, you do get a 1TB storage combined with a 16GB SDD ExpressCache. This solution gives you massive storage while still providing around 20 seconds boot times and 2 seconds wake time from sleep.
Along with the graphics and storage is Intel’s Hyper-threaded, dual-core Core i7 2637M running at 1.7GHz and 6GB RAM. With Turbo Boost technology, the CPU will boost up to 2.8GHz when the ultrabook needs it. Other features are two USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, 4-in-1 multi SD card slot, WiFi-N, Bluetooth 3.0, Ethernet, Full HDMI, VGA, and 1.3MP webcam. All of these in something that is 1.84kg and 20.9mm thick.
The 13” model does not have an integrated ODD but it is even lighter at 1.38kg and thinner at 17.6mm than the 14” model. What you do get is an Intel Core i5 CPU with 4GB RAM. You get 500GB of storage with the same 16GB SSD ExpressCache. You only get one USB 3.0 port but two USB 2.0 ports. You also get 4-in-1 multi SD card slot, WiFi-N, Bluetooth 3.0, Ethernet, Full HDMI, VGA, and 1.3MP webcam.
Battery life is touted to be around 6.4hours with Samsung’s Battery Life Plus.
Also during the launch, Samsung also introduced its ULTRA Icons who are achievers and entrepreneurs that embody self-empowerment. These individuals share the same attributes to the Series 5; by grabbing all opportunities and being the best that you can be. The ULTRA Icons: Juliet Herrera of Serenitea, Alfie Sy of Cash Cash Pinoy and Eugenio Gonzalez of Quick Delivery were each awarded with a Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook in recognition for their revolutionary ideas in the Philippine business.
The 13” model will set you back PhP44,900 while the 14” model with ODD will retail for PhP54,900.
