Symantec has continued to observe a daily decline in the number of Flashback malware infections, but the current number still remains relatively high at 140,000 infected machines.
Given the removal tools and Apple security updates now available, Symantec expected the decline to be greater at this point in time. It’s important for Mac users to recognize the need to leverage these tools and updates to prevent themselves from falling victim to additional malicious activity. Such additional activity has already been observed with the release of the Sabpab malware, which seeks to exploit the same vulnerability as Flashback.
If you suspect that your Mac has been infected with OSX.Flashback.K, it is recommended to install the latest patches, ensure that your antivirus is up to date with the latest signatures, and to use the free Norton Flashback Detection and Removal Tool.
