A lot of people are saying that the Samsung Galaxy S III is the new hotness. However, for at least one person, this seems to be literally true. A member at the Boards.ie forum posted a story of how the Samsung smartphone sparked into flames which was followed by a bang while it was in a car mount.
The poster, dillo2k10, said that apart from the physical damage and the loss of carrier signal, the phone still worked. He has also updated his post that Samsung has already been in contact with him. He also states that while he doesn’t exclude the Galaxy S III from the problem, he does say that the incident might have been caused by the car mount and the car’s heating system.
Samsung is already aware of the issue and has released a short statement through their blog, Samsung Tomorrow.
There have been recent online posts displaying pictures of a Samsung GALAXY SIII that appears to have heat-related damage at the bottom of the device. Samsung is aware of this issue and will begin investigating as soon as we receive the specific product in question.
Once the investigation is complete, we will be able to provide further details on the situation. We are committed to providing our customers with the safest products possible and are looking at this seriously.
