Canon has sent out an advisory regarding their flagship point-and-shoot, the PowerShot S100. Canon will be offering free repair the lens error issue for affected S100s.

S100 owners experiencing a lens error problem should have their cameras checked. Specifically, serial numbers with the first two digits from “29″ to “40″ are affected. For example, ”29xxxxxxxxxx”,  ”30xxxxxxxxxx” “41xxxxxxxxxx”.

The issue arises when due to a part inside the lens being disconnected. Canon has said that this issue is more susceptible in conditions such as high temperatures and/or humidity–which we have an abundance off.

Affected cameras with the problem will be repaired free of charge, regardless of the warranty status once it has been confirmed by Canon.

While this is only an advisory by Canon, if your PowerShot S100 falls under the serial numbers above, it’s just prudent to have your camera checked whether you are experiencing lens error or not.
