Microsoft has announced that it has completed product development and testing of Windows 8. It’s now ready to be released to manufacturing (RTM), where code will be handed off to the company’s hardware partners to begin prepping Windows 8 PCs and devices in time for general availability on October 26th. People can avail of Windows 8 by either upgrading for $39.99 or on a new PC or device.
MSDN and TechNet subscribers will be able to download the final build on August 15. Microsoft Software Assurance customers and Microsoft Partner Network members will gain access on August 16. Microsoft Action Pack Providers will gain access on August 20. Finally Volume License customers without Software Assurance will be able to purchase Windows 8 through Microsoft Volume License Resellers.
Accompanying the release of Windows 8, PCs and tablets, which include Microsoft Surface, will ship on October 26th as well.
