Manila, Philippines – ASUS invited DJSUB Known to the local overclocking community as the top overclocker in the country, to the recently concluded, weekend-long Davao Cyber Expo 2012 to talk about the basics and benefits of overclocking and to showcase some of the features of the ASUS ROG Maximus V Extreme.

Empowering Davao Enthusiasts

The Davao Cyber Expo served as the best venue for the first local unveiling of the latest ASUS ROG motherboard, the ASUS ROG Maximus V Extreme. The Maximus V Extreme is a motherboard specifically designed to cater to the strict requirements of extreme overclockers and its collection of features outclasses any motherboard in its category. The exclusive OC Key™ attachment comes in the retail box, and includes several powerful overclocking functions that are perfect for competitive benchmarking. OSD TweakIt and OSD Monitor work on the hardware level to enable real time adjustments and provide detailed system info, with no CPU resource penalty or software install needed. For aggressive cooling systems, Subzero Sense™ offers accessible detection that can measure temperatures as low as -200°C, providing users with complete insight into the efficiency of their thermal configuration. With K-type cables and a dedicated sensor port, Subzero Sense™ saves overclockers on the cost of buying a separate thermometer. For hands-on voltage modification, ROG includes VGA Hotwire™, which allows for quick DIY soldering of voltage points on the board and select ASUS graphics cards. This creates better board/GPU synergy, and improves overall tuning performance, as everything overclockers need to push their system to the limit can be easily accessed and adjusted via convenient OC Key™, BIOS, and TurboV interfaces.

DCE also allowed ASUS to strengthen ties with power users from Davao by providing them with a direct channel of communication to voice out their concerns and suggestions on how the ROG line can be improved further. At the same time, this open channel will also provide them with access to the latest news and developments regarding ASUS and ROG products.

Overclocking with the Master

Michelle Patelo aka DJSUB is a known figure in the local overclocking scene. He holds several world records in HWBOT and is well versed with the many tweaks and tricks to get the most out of an air-cooled rig. ASUS invited him to DCE to give a brief tutorial on the basics of overclocking as a way to educate average users. In a short on-stage interview, DJSUB discussed the things that a prospective overclocker would need. This was then followed by a demonstration of the concepts that he previously delved into by overclocking a water-cooled rig on the spot. Futuremark’s 3DMark Vantage benchmarking software was then ran to verify stability of the overclocked rig.

Competition Winners

As the Davao Cyber Expo came to a close, winners of the different categories for the case modding and overclocking competitions were each presented with prizes from ASUS. Joshua Collango and Ejay Bosquit, two very lucky individuals who placed 1st and 2nd place respectively for the Multi-core Performance category, each got to take home an ASUS ROG Maximus V Gene. For the case modding competition, four winners were selected to represent the categories of Custom Rig, Small Form Factor, Mid Tower, and Full Tower. Respectively, the winners for each category are Layan Uy, Jesse Tiongson, Esmael Misa, and Karl Alberca. Each of them received an ASUS goodie bag and an acrylic case.

Pricing and Availability

The Maximus V Extreme will be available in ASUS authorized dealers by mid-August with an SRP of PhP 24,990.
