Globe Presscon

Globe Telecom recently updated that the progress of their $790-Million Comprehensive Network Modernization Program has passed 50%, and the company expects full completion by first quarter of 2013.

“The new system will have capacity for many years forward and will be upgradeable remotely,” declared Ernest Cu, President and CEO of Globe Telecom.

At a press conference, the company’s top executives dispelled rumors and negative press about their network modernization and proudly announced that the program was not just an upgrade, but instead a total replacement of existing facilities with modern and state-of-the-art equipment. In addition to wireless infrastructure, 12,000-kilometers of terrestrial and submarine fiber optic cables will also be laid out across the country. The new LTE ready network will have better data handling capabilities with a new full IP network core using new switches.

Cu also revealed their re-planned network will have new more efficient antenna technology for better service quality and a greener footprint as their radios will consume less power and have better heat resistance.

A new IT system upgrade is also taking place with 80-90% of its billing facilities already completed. The new system will be more efficient and is being touted to have realtime monitoring of service usage including data. The new system will converge all its subscribers into one billing system and should be complete also by the first-quarter of 2013.

LTE service announcement

By September of this year, its all systems go to launch the 4G LTE network of Globe. On top of just offering the fastest speeds on the country’s best broadband service, Tattoo, Globe will offer 4G LTE on a full range of mobile phones by the fourth quarter of the year,” said Peter Bithos, Senior Adviser for Consumer Business of Globe Telecom, “Globe has been the industry leader in 4G for years. Globe was the first to introduce 4G WiMax and 4G HSPA+. Now, we are the first carrier to announce mobile 4G LTE, which provides superior speeds on the world’s best mobile phones and gadgets.”

Globe’s 4G LTE service will be launched through its Tatoo broadband service initially and will eventually be available to mobile customers by fourth quarter of 2012. Key commercial and residential areas in Makati City will be the first to experience the new data service as Globe plans to focus on contiguous areas of coverage rather than just hotspot areas. The LTE network will expand across Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao soon after. Executives however remained mum as to what exact devices the company will offer for their LTE service.
