Rumors have been spreading for a while of LG’s newest flagship smartphone will arrive soon. However, today, the cover has finally been lifted and LG has finally announced the Optimus G.

If you think this is a simple upgrade in specs, think again. The Optimus G wil use Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor running at 1.5GHz which as LG is saying, will give 40% more performance than current generation quad-core processors while still being very power efficient. While LG has a number of smartphones that feature True HD IPS+ displays, the Optimus G will be using new screen technology called G2 Touch Hybrid. The technology fully integrates touch technology into the glass. This means that you get all the features of True HD IPS+ with its 720p (1280×720) resolution, wide viewing areas, and high contrast into a much thinner display.

Other features include a 13MP rear-facing camera as well as a 1.3MP front-facing camera, LG UX user interface, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), and a 2,100mAh battery.

Because the Optimus G will be using Qualcomm’s latest chips, the smartphone will be LTE-capable. According to NTT Docomo, one of Japan’s telecom provider, the LG Optimus G will be one of the newest phone to arrive around October or November under its Xi (read Crossy) LTE branding. NTT Docomo is also promising that the new phone which includes the Optimus G is capable of a maximum 75Mbps download speeds.

The LG Optimus G will arrive in Korea in September while the phone will arrive in Japan in October or November. Worldwide launch hasn’t been specified but LG says it will arrive within the year.

Since Smart’s recently launched LTE service is based on NTT Docomo’s Xi, it is possible that the Optimus G smartphone will take advantage of the telecom’s LTE service and may even reach the same 75Mbps download speeds.
