Apple has finally decided to shutdown its music-oriented social media service Ping on September 30th after it failed generate much user interest. Ping was launched around two years ago on September 1 2010, with a million users in over 23 countries.
The service was never able to gain much momentum going into the social media sphere and failed to capture people’s attention. Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted that they would soon be dropping Ping in an interview. “We tried Ping, and I think the customer voted and said ‘This isn’t something that I want to put a lot of energy into.”
Whatever the case may be, Ping is just another example that not everything Apple launches will become worldwide sensations.
