Google has acquired yet another company, this time it’s Nik Software, the German developer of photo app Snapseed. Nik Software produces various photography apps, Snapseed was what Google wanted. Snapseed won Apple’s iPad App of the Year award in 2011, Best Mobile Photo App of 2012, and gained over nine million users during its first year.
This move by Google looks like it’s trying to pit its own Google+ against Facebook and Instagram. Both Snapseed and Instagram use various filters to manipulate images and achieve different effects. The Nik Software team that worked on Snapseed will be relocated to Google headquarters in Mountain View to work on Google+
