Sony did it with the PS2 and now they’re doing it with the PS3. They’ve just announced at the Tokyo Game Show that they’ll be releasing a new slimmer Playstation 3, that comes in 250GB and 500GB models with two colors to choose from (charcoal black and classic white).

The “charcoal black” 250GB PS3 bundle (comes with Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception “Game of the Year Edition”) priced at $269, is set to be released in the US on September 25. The “classic white” option arrives in Japan on November, with other regions to follow. For those with looking bigger storage space, the 500GB model will arrive on October 30 in the US and September 28 in Europe.

Sony is also releasing a new PS3 with 12GB flash memory at an affordable price point of €229 to be sold in Europe and Hong Kong. Users can expand the flash memory by connecting a dedicated 250GB HDD priced at €89.99 released at the same time.

The volume and weight of this slimmer PS3 has been reduced by half as compared to the original PS3 and around 25% slimmer than the previous slimmed down version.

Both are good consoles which are unfortunately nearing the end of their life cycle. It would boil down on what games you like to play the most because there are some proprietary games.
