Things are shaking up at Apple headquarters; they have just announced that Senior VP of iOS software Scott Forstall will leave Apple at the end of the year, serving as adviser to CEO Tim Cook until his departure. John Browett, Senior VP of retail for Apple will be leaving as well. Jony Ive, Bob Mansfield, Eddy Cue, and Craig Federighi will assume additional responsibilities.
No word on why John Browett, a newcomer after less than a year on the job, will be leaving. Apple says that a search for a replacement is underway and in the meantime Retail will report directly to CEO Tim Cook. But Scott Forstall leaving could be seen as the price he paid for Siri and the infamous Maps app.
Jony Ive will now provide leadership and direction for human interface, in addition to his leadership role of industrial design, which could mean a new look for iOS and OS X in the future. Eddy Cue will take on responsibility of Siri and the infamous Maps. Craig Federighi, previously VP of Mac software, will now handle both iOS and OSX. Bob Mansfield will be leading a new group, Technologies, focusing on wireless tech and semiconductors.
