According to Bloomberg, Apple is said to be shifting away away from Intel chips, exploring a version of the ARM technology used in the iPhone and iPad. Their engineers are confident that their designs will be powerful enough to run their Macs.

Apple first shifted to Intel chips back in 2005 and are now committed to the partnership, so changes won’t be seen in the next few years. This possible change in direction stems from the company’s plans to make their products thinner and smaller without sacrificing performance as more and more features of PCs and mobile devices overlap. This move also coincides with the new Technologies department headed by Bob Mansfield, that focuses on semiconductor development.
