Dell unveils XPS 12 convertible ultrabook

Dell recently unveiled their newest addition to the Windows 8 ecosystem with their XPS 12 convertible ultrabook. The XPS 12 converts from an ultrabook to a tablet simply by flipping the screen around. You have the performance of an ultrabook with the portability of a tablet. They also unveiled their newest on-site repair service for Windows 8 devices.


The Dell XPS 12 has a flip and fold 12.5-inch (1920 x 1080) full HD WLED IPS capacitive touchscreen display covered with Corning Gorilla Glass. Powered by an Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5 processor with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. It weighs 1.52kg due to the machined aluminum flip hinge and carbon fiber construction. It has 2 USB 3.0 ports, a 20-pin mini-display, and a 1.3MP webcam. The XPS 12 uses a backlit chiclet keyboard that’s spill-resistant for accidental spillage.

The Dell XPS 12 retails for P65,990 at authorized retailers nationwide and comes with 1 year of on-site service.


For an ultrabook, the XPS 12 felt a tad heavier than its competitors, due to its machined aluminum flip hinge. The design itself was quite sleek and clean, with the display flipping smoothly. One thing that was lacking from the XPS 12 was the ability to change orientations when in tablet mode as the screen was locked in only one position. EDIT:  I’ve been informed that the Dell XPS 12 does actually have an orientation lock button on the side of the device so it can change orientations when moved around.

On-site Service

Dell’s newest on-site service, available nationwide, gives customers technical support right at your door. The service is available to all Dell products running with pre-installed Windows 8. “We want to make sure that we are able to attend to our customer right at their door steps. With the new system in place, response is within 24-48 hours.” said Christopher Papa, Dell Country Manager. Simply call Dell Tech Support at 1-800-1601-0062 and a Dell Tech agent will conduct a diagnosis to determine the problem. If the problem isn’t fixed through the phone, the company will send a Dell Engineer to solve the problem.
