The Canon EOS-M digital single lens non-reflex camera was unveiled to us this morning. The EOS-M has a lightweight and compact body, the size of a point-and-shoot with the capabilities of a DSLR. It’s small form is due to the non-reflex operating system, which removes the optical viewfinder, main mirror, mirror drive mechanism, and a few dials and buttons. Instead, the EOS-M has a 3-inch multi-touch widescreen Clear View LCD II monitor to easily change settings on the go. It features a 31-point Hybrid AF, similar to the 650D.

The EOS-M utilizes an 18.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5 image processor to produce stunning images with rich color gradation and smooth bokeh. Its ISO sensitivity can reach up to 12800 (expandable to 25600), perfect for low-light conditions. The multi-touch display enables a streamlined touch AF/AE (Auto-Focus/Auto-Exposure) scheme letting you point at your preferred focus point without shifting your camera, allowing you to continuously of up to 4.3 frames per second. We tried out the touchscreen which was quite responsive and easy-to-use.

The EOS-M has a dial on top with three shooting modes, each with their own respective options. Despite having no built-in flash, it does have a hotshoe, perfect for your Speedlite flash. All the control options you need  are accessible via the touchscreen, which explains the lack of dials and buttons. Its looks as a small camera may deceive you but most DSLR peripherals can be connected to EOS-M. From the looks of it, its perfect for those always on-the-go and need a lightweight camera to capture DSLR-like photographs.

A variety of functions help you take the perfect shot such as HDR Backlight Control, Multi-shot Noise Reduction, Handheld Night Landscape, and Creative Filters. Other than taking stunning photographs, the EOS-M is also capable of full HD video capture.

Canon has three kits available for the EOS-M, one with the EF-M 18-55mm STM lens for P35,998, available in black, white, red and silver. Another with the EF-M 22mm STM lens and EF mount adaptor for P40,998 and lastly a kit with both EF-M 18-55mm and 22mm STM lenses with a Speedlite 90EX for P47,998, both are available in black and white. All three kits come with three-year warranty and an 8GB SD card for free.
