Eager PlayStation fans won’t have to wait till E3 to take a peek at Sony’s next generation console as the company plans to unveil it at a PlayStation-related event on February 20th according to The Wall Street Journal. Beating Microsoft to the punch, the company is also planning to put the new console on sale later this year, to compete against Microsoft’s next generation console into the holiday season. Along with the media, the company has also extended invitations to company investors, a sure sign that the next generation console, the PlayStation Orbis, will be unveiled.
Sony doesn’t seem to be too focused on raw power as it plans to change “how users interact with the machine” and to “incorporate more social gaming aspects into the new machine.” It’s rumored that the Orbis will be using AMD processors for both its CPU and GPU needs, making backwards compatibility with PS3 games difficult to achieve.
