Is that a screenshot from a dystopian sci-fi movie? Nope, that’s Taiwanese tech firm Polytron Technologies showing off the world’s first “almost” fully transparent smartphone prototype. It’s “almost” fully transparent with the exception of the electronics, memory card, and camera. The whole device is a piece of glass with a small transparent touchscreen in the center. According to the Taiwanese firm, this technology could be available by then end of 2013.
Uses for a transparent smartphone are debatable, but like Samung’s Youm flexible OLED display, there will surely be a niche for them to fill. Who knows, Samsung and Polytron could work together to create a flexible transparent device in the near future.
