The long-awaited “untethered” jailbreak tool for iOS 6.1 has finally arrived, despite a delay in its release. The jailbreak, dubbed “evasi0n,” has been released by a group of veteran hackers known as Evad3rs. The tool currently works on all version of iOS 6.0 and above, and supports all current iOS 6.1 devices except for the third generation Apple TV. An “untethered” jailbreak would allow you to safely reboot your device without losing the jailbreak or any other features, as opposed to a “tethered” jailbreak that requires you to plug your device into a computer and running the jailbreak app if you reboot it.

The evasi0n jailbreak tool works with Linux, Mac OS X (10.5 or higher), Windows XP or above and is available for download on the evasi0n website for free. Make sure to only get it from the official site as some fake jailbreak tools have been spreading around as well.

Before you jailbreak your iPhone, here’s a tip from the team.

According to the group the devices that are supported are:

  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPad mini
  • iPad 4
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 2
  • iPod Touch 4
  • iPod Touch 5
  • Apple TV 2G

If you need any help using the jailbreak, here’s a video from Jeff Benjamin of iDownloadBlog.
