google-valentines-doodleGoogle Doodles are a welcome sight every time a special date is celebrate and this Valentine’s Day Doodle is an interactive one. This St. Valentine’s Doodle celebrates the 154th birthday of George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr., the inventor of the original Ferris wheel.

George Ferris was an American engineer who debuted the first Ferris wheel at the 1893 Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition. Born in Galesburg, Illinois in 1859, Ferris attended the California Military Academy and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, becoming a Civil Engineer. The original wheel was demolished 13 years later, after carrying 2.5 million passengers, outliving its creator, Ferris who died in 1896 of typhoid fever.

The doodle features an animated fairground scene with two Ferris wheels at the center. Once you press the big red heart button that you can’t miss, both wheels will spin and two random carriages will line up. Each carriage contains a cartoon animal character and with each combination you’ll get to see how their Valentine’s Day date went. Some are simple drawings, while others are cartoon strips. Some of the dates have a happy ending, while others don’t end too well.
