Facebook has announced at Mobile World Congress 2013 that it will partner up with mobile carriers around the world to offer free or discounted access to Facebook messaging. Smart has been pretty busy this MWC 2013, first partnering up with Mozilla to bring in Firefox OS devices and now it has become the sole Philippine carrier that has partnered up with Facebook.

“We’re excited with this partnership as it’s in line with our goal of making access to messaging and other mobile Internet services accessible to more Filipinos. We’re sure that this is something that our subscribers are looking forward to.” said Orlando B. Vea, Chief Wireless Advisor of SMART Communications.

Facebook’s messaging services can be accessed through Messenger for Android, Messenger for iOS, and Facebook for Java, so most devices should be included. In the coming months, free or discounted access will be available from over 18 operators in 14 countries, that includes Smart in the Philippines.
