That’s right a 120-inch 4K resolution widescreen television from Microsoft. Step aside Samsung, you’re not the largest 4K TV anymore. The company may not be in the television business, but that won’t stop them from showing off its R&D capabilities at its brand new Envisioning Centre at the company’s headquarters in Seattle. The folks at Pocket-lint were able to get up close and personal with the gigantic screen.
The Envisioning Centre is Microsoft’s vision of the home of the future, which is being used to demo a full Kinect-enabled experience, that the company believes will be the norm in five to 10 years. the demo showed off how different technologies around the home, which included the digital picture frames around the screen to extend the viewing area to create a fully immersive experience. The company is banking on its Kinect technology, which it previously showed off for immersive gaming through the IllumiRoom project.
A number of manufacturers have already started making 4K televisions, showing them off at CES, but none match up to the sheer size Microsoft has achieved. The only problem is we can only look at it, Microsoft says that it won’t be selling TVs any time soon and that the behemoth in their Envisioning Centre is merely to show off what the company is looking to do.
