Popular smartphone photo-blogging app Instagram has just introduced a new video option which allows users to record 15-second videos and post it online. The announcement was made on Thursday to its users via the application. Currently Instagram has about 10,000,000 users and still growing.
The new Instagram video service allows users to record 15-second videos, add filters, and select a cover photo. They display just like photos on Instagram, looping only once. Videos have to be recorded with the app, unlike the photo app which allows users to use photos from the albums.
The introduction of video for Instagram is seen as a reaction to the increasing popularity of smartphone app Vine by microblogging site Twitter and social video app Viddy. The video capability was also rolled over to Facebook, which bought Instagram last year for $100M.
We’ve only managed to try it for a bit and we are liking the video option.
